California Sports Surfaces® Launches New Street Ice® Formula

The new coating technology is designed for speed, durability, and impact—the ideal surface solution for outdoor inline sports everywhere.

ANDOVER, Mass.March 31, 2026 California Sports Surfaces (CSS), a brand of ICP Group and the leading supplier of premium sports surfacing systems, has launched its newly formulated Street Ice®, a smooth and resilient surface coating designed specifically for roller hockey, inline skating, and other wheeled sports. The surface is also suitable for activities such as shuffleboard and certain bocce applications.

The new coating offers the toughness required for outdoor inline activity, including resistance to high-impact roller contact and abrasion, as well as protection from the elements, including UV exposure, rain and snow, and more. Street Ice consolidates technologies from previous formulations as well as new resin and additive technologies, developed following extensive testing on abrasion resistance and roller impact to ensure long-term durability in demanding indoor and outdoor environments.

“We’ve developed the right balance of performance characteristics and weatherability that outdoor facilities require,” said Tom Magner, Director of Product Management, California Sports Surfaces. “Our goal is to enable top-level athleticism for the lifespan of the playing surface, no matter the conditions.”

For example: Street Ice ® offers optimal permeability, allowing moisture vapor from the ground to escape through the coating and reducing the risk of bubbling or peeling on the surface, contributing to greater longevity, appearance, and durability for the life of the surface.

“Of course, we also closely considered the speed and intensity of the game,” added Magner. “Street Ice® is formulated for improved durability, speed, and resiliency, with up to 50% greater abrasion resistance than earlier formulations.”

Additional benefits include:

  • Smooth texture for excellent puck and skate control
  • High durability ideal for aggressive play and impact
  • UV resistance to maintain color and integrity
  • Mold and mildew resistance for safe and healthy athletic environments
  • Reduced VOC content than previous formulations for an improved environmental profile

And while many in-line skating surfaces use general-purpose sport court colors, Street Ice® stands apart with a palette designed specifically for the demands of in-line sports. Five available high-contrast, visually dynamic shades enhance puck and ball visibility, improving player awareness and overall gameplay.
