ShockWave™ RTU FAQs

ShockWave™ RTU is the product professionals employ with confidence to restore healthy conditions in homes, workspaces, and public places. It is registered to kill mold and is also registered for a range of organisms known to cause epidemic and pandemic – including 32 different viruses. In comparison, the EPA does not review the effectiveness of common household ingredients like vinegar or rubbing alcohol, so the EPA cannot verify how well they work to kill the novel coronavirus.

ShockWave™ RTU is EPA-Registered for use on porous and non-porous surfaces and is EPA-Registered for use in food contact and processing operations. Food contact surfaces must be rinsed after disinfection with any ShockWave™ product. As always, please review the product label closely for more information.

When using any liquid treatment, other than something that 100% evaporates such as purified water, there is something left behind. The active ingredients in ShockWave™ brand products are quaternary ammonium chlorides. Typically, these active ingredients break down in the disinfection process, and what remains are inert salts.

Typically, residues are only noticeable, when found at all, on glossy surfaces including, mirrors, windows, glass partitions, and lens/reflector components of parabolic lighting. Special care should be taken to protect the latter as some may experience spatter shadowing; whereas the other glossy surfaces mentioned here can be cleaned of such residues (again on the rare instances where visible at all) by dry buffing with terrycloth, or gentle wet wiping with cloth and clean water.

ShockWave™ RTU is registered to kill a range of organisms known to cause epidemic and pandemic: Measles, Norovirus (F. calicivirus), Dysentery (Shigella), Parainfluenza (Paramyxoviridae), Legionella, Poliovirus, MRSA-VRSA & VRE, and all the influenza strains (A, B, C) that combined, created pandemics in the 20th century.

To aid the public in selecting disinfectants, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) produced and maintains a list of EPA-registered disinfectant products that have qualified for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

To determine if a product is included on List N, check its EPA registration number (EPA Reg. No.). If it is, you have a match and the product can be used against SARS-CoV-2. You can find the registration number on the product label – just look for “EPA Reg. No.” followed by two or three sets of numbers. For example, if EPA Reg. No. 12345-12 is on List N, you can buy EPA Reg. No. 12345-12-2567 and know you’re getting an equivalent product. Follow the contact time provided on List N.
